Turning Your Basement into a Vacation Rental? Get Several Sets of Decorations to Put on Display

Willie Shaw

People who purchase a home with a basement have lots of possibilities for using the space. It makes sense to turn the space into a recreational area or use it for storage, but you may be more interested in making it a vacation rental that allows you to generate some income from your own home. The first thing you will need to do is finish the basement, and then you will need to furnish it all. Basic furnishings will get you some guests, but you can make it more appealing with home decorations. Doing some shopping online for multiple sets of decorations is worth the time and money.

Special Occasions

Although most of your guests will just be looking for a place to stay, you may want to have certain decorations that can accommodate guests who want to make their trip extra special. For instance, a surprise birthday trip means you can put up a few birthday-related decorations before they arrive. On Valentine's Day, you can check with the guests to see if they would like some related decorations put up. These little details will earn loyalty with some guests, and they may even recommend your rental.

Holidays

Throughout the month of December, you should consider adding Christmas decorations. Your putting time and effort into making the rental festive is something that many people will appreciate. If your guests are on a Christmas trip, you can keep them from missing their own home with a fully decorated rental. It is worth taking a look at a Christmas checklist to ensure you pick up things like an artificial Christmas tree, ornaments, wreaths, lights, figures, and other decorations that are related to the holiday.

Seasonal

You will want to pick up a few more decoration sets for each season. Picking beach-related items is perfect for summertime, especially if you live somewhat near the beach, as this decor will fit in perfectly. Throughout fall, you can incorporate all sorts of reds, oranges, yellows, and browns with decorations. The great thing about these decorations is that they are not necessary by any means. This means you can feel better about choosing the items that you would also enjoy having in your own home. In the future, you might decide to stop using the basement as a vacation rental, but you will still have decorations you like.

Shop at stores near you or buy home decor online so that you have access to an incredible selection for filling up your vacation rental.

About Me
Shopping Smarter, Not Harder

After I became a mother, I realized that I was going to be spending quite some time shopping for supplies. I knew that when I wasn't getting groceries, I would likely be finding new clothes for my kids to wear and trying to find things for the house. Instead of spending loads of money on all of these shopping trips, I started trying to shop smarter, not harder. I started carefully evaluating things like price tags and sales, and it really made a big difference in our lives. This blog is all about saving money by buying the right things, and knowing how to avoid problems from overspending.
